I know not everyone who accesses this site lives in California, but I do. On the November 4, 2008 ballot there was a California proposition that tried to eliminate the right of marriage to same sex couples. So far, the proposition is looking to have passed, however, there are still absentee and provisional votes that have not been counted. There still is a chance that homosexual couples can have the rights they deserve; the votes, technically, have until December 2, 2008 to be counted. I, for one, still have faith that there is a chance.

Same sex marriage is a civil rights issue. Human beings are human beings, no matter what they look like, how they dress or who they love. That's it and that's all. Any other arguments, for or against the proposition is irrelevant.

I, myself, am not homosexual, but I have plenty of friends who are. PLENTY. There should be no reason as to why I can walk down the aisle in a white dress (or whatever I decided to wear that day) but a lesbian friend of mine can't. There is no excuse for this type of hatred to be going on. I plan to do what I can to help the cause, to support the fight and to stand behind my friends who didn't choose who they were in love with.

So, to anyone and everyone who is reading this, and who cares for that matter, I am taking a vow today, November 6, 2008. I vow to whomever is reading this that I will not exercise my right to be married until same sex couples have the same exact right.

So here's the deal.

My father decided to redo our (my mother & I) bathroom because it was outdated, and having to hold a lot of my mothers medical supplies, it was too small. It wasn't a big 'redo', it was just a wider shower, a new sink, new mirror, extra shelves, new tile, new paint, extra storage space, and new paint. Well, a friend of my brothers (and I use that term lightly) offered to do it for cheap. Well.. to make a long story short, he ended up taking the money (after somehow racking up a $3500 alone for labor) and never finishing the work. This project, when it began, was originally priced at $600 for the labor and we would buy the materials ourselves.

Tonight, we found that the tile wasn't put in properly so it is cracking and coming up, and we will need to tear it out and have it re-done, again. We also discovered, a week or so ago, that the plumbing for the sink was done poorly, and it was leaking so we had to turn the sink off. Also, the shower can not be used, due to the tiling not being done and the drain is full of debris and a plumber needs to be called to fix it.

I'm not one to ever want to be a 'charity case', however, this is a necessity; like I said, it is the bathroom that both my mother and I share. For those of you who don't already know, my mother suffers from Multiple Sclerosis and can not walk at all. She requires extra care that is in constant need of a bathroom.

What it comes down to is that we don't have the money. Both of my parents are retired & disabled, and living on a fixed income. I do my best to help them financially, but being a college student and paying my own way with school puts me in a situation where I can't afford this either.

I originally had a "donate" button from paypal linked to this entry. However, I've realized that with the economic crisis we are currently in, people can't really afford to donate what extra money they have. However, please note that from now on the proceeds from anything purchased from my selling journal (baysick) will be going to helping fix this problem. Thank you to everyone who reads this.
